Alone Organisation - Mobile Phones for  Older People

 

The ALONE Organisation have received mobile phones for distribution to older people. They are seeking links into communities to identify any older people who may need a phone. The contact person for more details is Tracey Reddy. Her email is tracey.reddy@alone.ie


  • Cork City Councl has launched a Covid-19 Community Response Forum to ensure that vulnerable members of the community or those living alone can access vital grocery, medicine and fuel deliveries and social care supports.

The team can be contacted on a dedicated community support helpline at 1800-222-226 which is running from 8am-8pm seven days a week. Contact can also be made by emailing covidsupport@corkcity.ie.

The core aim of this forum is contributing to the community-wide effort to limit the spread of COVID-19 by ensuring a coordinated community response. Cork City Council’s COVID-19 Community Response Forum will work to ensure that local resources - including social care support and social contact – are targeted at the people who need them most.


  • An Post have introduced a new measure that in the event of a customer not being able to collect their Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection payments personally at the post office.

A nominated person (temporary agent) can be nominated to collect the payment on their behalf. This will be important for older people who may not be in a position to collect their pensions as well as people who are immune suppressed or have other underlying health conditions and are in receipt of social welfare payments.

  • Bank of Ireland have also launched a new service which allows self isolating customers access cash without having to leave their homes or break their isolation. Customers  can nominate another person to make in-branch cash withdrawals and lodgements on their behalf. The new facility, available from 25th March  will have built-in safeguards such as limits on withdrawals and daily monitoring by Bank of Ireland’s dedicated Vulnerable Customer Unit.

Customers who wish to avail of this service are advised to complete the “BOI Cocooning Support” form which is available on the Covid-19 Customer Hub  at www.bankofireland.com/coronavirus-update/  


SuperValu, Centra and the GAA have partnered up to launch a new initiative to support older people in Ireland during the Corona-19 crisis. The goal of Club Together is to capitalise on Ireland's unique community spirit, by helping older people who do not have family and friends around to support them.
